Sakai is an open-source Collaboration and Learning Environment developed by a community of leading institutions of Higher Education. In addition to bundling standard instructional tools, Sakai bundles a rich toolset spanning collaboration, portfolios, and libraries.
Teaching tools supporting online assessment, grading, and assignments are complemented by collaboration tools. Live chats, threaded discussions, mailing lists, blogging, podcasting, and wikis are examples of tools integrated into the same environment used to support online learning, but available to support researchers, committees, student groups, and ad-hoc project teams.
